Installation Night...Friday, Aug. 3rd 7 PM

Installation Night...Friday, Aug. 3rd 7 PM
I know you are all getting sick of my chronic posts, but I have to confess I am used to seeing everyone every week in class, for weeks and all questions and specifics are hashed out then.  So pardon my consistent notices, but I want everyone to be well informed and have a GREAT TIME!  For the install, I will have 12 x 18 black paper, glue, mounting putty, gallery cards, markers, posters etc.., for everyone to sign and use.

"Door to Creativity" Important installation information!

Friday Aug. 3 at 7:00 PM

When we gathered last week (7-15) for Second Sunday and began the “no  AW classes” planning for this exhibition and “Celebration of Creativity” we identified one problem with the actual curating of an exhibition that included so many different styles, shapes, colors and years.  In years past we had “group projects” (most of you will remember the 20 x 20 black foam board works that creatives interpreted the show theme) or the auction work which was always the same “product” to auction off, but interpreted differently with your own ideas and mediums.  This year, we have neither of these exhibit unifying tools. We chatted about different possibilities, and with those ideas here is the simple unifying plan.

A black sheet of paper 12 x 18 with a photo from a past group and an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper with your name, the year or years you participated and a type written description of what the Artist’s Way did for your creativity.

This will be hung next to your work producing a visual repetition that will unite and lead viewers through the gallery.

I have ordered the black mounting sheets; they will be here for the installation.

You need to find and bring a photo of you and your group, and if you do not have one I will print and bring what I have that can be used.  Horizontal 4 x 6 photos will work great, but we can trim and use other sizes.

On an 8.5 x 11 sheet of white paper using a sans serif font, like Ariel or Calibri or similar, type your name in a large size and the year or years underneath.  Then type your experience with the Artist’s Way in a 12 to 14 pt font double spaced (readable on the wall)

If for some reason you cannot print please feel free to send email me your text and I will format and print it for you.

The night of installation we will mount the photo and text on the black backing and install with the work.

Door to Creativity Prospectus...

Door to creativity Concept
In the past years as a  way to show the city of Casselberry our appreciation for hosting our summer Artist’s Way Group and exhibition we have collectively shown our gratitude  by having small art auctions  and  volunteering to pour wine at city events for tips. Our tips and  auction proceeds have gone to purchase small needed things for the art house, a microwave, refrigerator, and sculpture pedestals etc.… We saw this as our responsibility to support the facility that has supported us.

The past few years we have hung on to and saved the auction monies to contribute to a larger art house “need” although I confess I had no idea what that might be.  This past year I answered the request from the city to help with the desperate need for a new art house door.  There was overwhelming support from AW members that agreed  (through the private AW FB page) that this would be an appropriate way to use our donations and is how we have come to “Door to Creativity” as the theme.  Please feel free to interpret this title any way you are moved to, it is not necessary to be literal and indeed could make for a rather boring exhibition!

Honoring our own creativity and the symbiotic journey of our creative intimates is a theme that runs through all of the Artist’s Way philosophy.  It is my hope that this exhibition will become a collective visual conception of this philosophy and your own personal creative journey.  This is a celebration of  “US” and a new door for the art house that will lead many more into their own creative journeys.
And of course, you all know we never pass up an opportunity to celebrate creativity and throw an art party!

Installation
1. Relax...enjoy...celebrate….our creativity...we are going to have such fun!

2. What to Bring:
Your personal amazing art gallery ready art works, the work you feel wonderful about !!! At least one piece, more if you would like, we try to hang it all, but everyone will have a piece prominently displayed!  Remember Gallery Ready means wired and ready to  hang...no saw teeth hangers.  If you need pedestals or performance space let me know and we will make it happen

Snacks, goodies, & bottled cheer….finger food only, please

3.  When you come in, please place your work on the floor, leaned up against the wall in no specific location or order.  We will configure and curate works around the gallery using color, subject matter, and size to lead the viewer's eye calmly and methodically through the gallery space.  Then we will all hang work in the selected space using uniform hanging specs.  This year because there are no similar auction pieces or group projects  to help unite the overall look of the gallery space,  hanging  and curating will be a bit more challenging!  But there is always the magic of like minded creatives that always make it work!

4.  It is going to be a GREAT INSTALLATION.  I cannot wait to see all of the works and begin celebrating the years of growth of our collective creativity!

Marketing
Once again it is so important that we all remember that this is a celebration of creative growth and gratitude.  The success of the evening has nothing to do with how many people come or how much work if any is sold.  This specific event is about us celebrating our creativity,  our contribution of a new door to the art house and the expression of gratitude to the City of Casselberry for the years of free use of the space.  It has been the birthplace of so much creative courage that has flowed freely through each of us out into our own lives and back out into our communities!  We are all grateful that we and it have been here for us!
After that is said... it is still great to share this kind of celebration with people we know and love….not as a measure of success, but a sharing the creative friendships that have evolved,  gratitude for the space we have inhabited and our gift of a door to creativity to new and old generations of creatives that are yet to come in our footsteps.
Marketing tools that we do have are :

Postcards
Internet  FaceBook Image graphics  to copy and paste (will post very soon)
And,,, the best and most overlooked marketing resource is our own enthusiasm about the evening!

Surviving Picasso Art Movie...Second Sunday! Jan 14 2018

This Second Sunday's art movie runs 2 hr 5 min. we will start right on time. You may want to plan to stay a little past 9PM if you want to take part in the discussion after the movie...Was it overwhelming ego or a complete lack of ego that allowed him to emotionally dismiss others opinions of his life and art?
